BACK ON THE MAP

In 2021 Emma Greene and Sunniva Moen Rørvik founded Back on the Map project. With their project aim to create an African American Dance History Festival for the young people of Lewisham, they won the Trinity Laban Innovation Award 2021.

Back on the Map is a mission devoted to changing the way we think about, and carry out arts learning. Our key aims are to advocate for the inclusion and appreciation of dance specific learning in compulsory education and to decolonize the knowledge emphasized in western depictions of art history. Our work is centred around creating fun and engaging dance history experiences and resources for young people. The focus of much of our content is reflecting a diverse array of contributions to the art world, and highlighting the work of the lesser taught pioneers of dance. The back on the Map project hopes to act as hub of information and resources for accurate and expansive learning. Our project is a multi-faceted effort to better the arts world, and to nurture a generation of open-minded young artists.
